Located in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide, Morialta Secondary College is a new purpose-built co-educational government school featuring state-of-the-art learning spaces, a performing arts centre, cutting-edge science labs, sports facilities and a café.

Built by Sarah Constructions, the school will grow year-on-year until 2028, when it will cater for 1,200 students from year 7 to 12. The school has a clear mandate to provide an innovative and sustainable learning environment to inspire its students, teachers and the local community.

The Brief

Rheem Commercial was contacted by engineering firm, Aurecon, to assist with designing reliable and efficient electric heat pump systems with high level redundancy built in.

The new systems and components would need to be accessible, to ensure easy removal when the products were at the end of their life cycle to maintain the integrity of the building for years to come.

The Solution

To deliver multiple efficient heat pump systems, Rheem Commercial worked with Aurecon and Connekt Plumbing to install a Rheem Commercial Air to Water (A2W) Heat Pump solution.

The heat pump system was designed to meet the estimated peak hot water usage for the school’s various facilities. The system utilises a Rheem Commercial A2W 16kW Heat Pump which delivers hot water up to 65°C with a system Coefficient of Performance (COP) of up to 4.0 at 20°C ambient air temperature. Using this approach, the school could save up to 75 per cent of operating costs (compared to electric water heaters).

The solutions ensure hot water is always available. A strategic installation plan ensured the units were positioned for easy, crane-free removal.
