Water-to-Water Heat Pump Case Study: Rheem designed the hot water system for the final stage of a five year $200M investment by Ramsay Health Care to expand Hollywood Private Hospital in Nedlands WA.
The Project
Rheem Commercial was asked by ACOR consultants to create a water heating system that would support the hospital and its new wing in caring safely for its staff, patients and visitors.
Hollywood Private Hospital is Western Australia’s largest private hospital, with over 75,000 patient admissions a year.
The hospital is expanding, creating a brand-new Emergency Department. This new Emergency Department features 13 patient bays including an isolation room, consultation rooms, a resuscitation room and three 30 bed wards.
Everything about this expansion is state-of-the-art, including the hot water system.
Solution
With health, safety, and efficiency as the main priorities for this project, this solution needed to be the best of the best.
Accord Plumbing collaborated with Rheem Commercial to deliver the highest efficiency solution on the market.
In another first for WA, the new Rheem water-to-water heat pump (W2W) was chosen to work in synergy with the buildings chiller system, to provide an energy efficient, effective solution that would be reliable for the hospital’s system.
The Rheem W2W heat pump works by using the excess heat from the chilled water line, rather than most heat pumps which use the heat from the air. This means the water is returned to the chiller at a lower temperature, reducing the chiller’s workload and making the ecosystem more efficient.
The Rheem iQ controller on the heat pump is also integrated with the buildings remote BMS via BACnet for full diagnostics and to provide easy management and control of the system.
Rheem Commercial also worked onsite with the team at Accord Plumbing for the installation and the high level of their craft can be seen in the images below.
