Located in the heart of North Sydney’s CBD, 80 Pacific Highway is a 14-level, A-grade office building with modern amenities.
With energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact of the utmost importance, the facility’s existing gas plant would need to be replaced to a fully Rheem-powered heat pump system.
The Brief
Rheem Commercial was contacted by JJ Coleman Plumbing to retrofit the tower’s current gas hot water system to support the building’s amenities, including end-of-trip facilities.
The plant would need to meet the client’s objective of maintaining the building’s 5 Star NABERS energy and water ratings, while also helping to minimise operational expenses. The high-water pressure requirements presented an additional challenge as standard systems would not be suitable.
Rheem Commercial worked together with JJ Coleman Plumbing and engineering consultancy practice, LCI Consulting, to design the hot water plant and plinth layout.
The Solution: Rheem commercial heat pump system
The YF Series A2W heat pump, coupled with Rheem’s Crossflow Delivery Skid, was selected to meet the client’s objective of energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and high operation pressure.
These innovative heat pumps utilise R1234yf refrigerant, which has an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 1.
The system’s improved Coefficient of Performance (COP) ensures high efficiency and reduced energy consumption, with an average COP of 4.23 for the 15kW model.
To ensure the consistent availability of hot water, the team incorporated heating elements in the storage tanks for additional redundancy.
As the heat pump system requires a well-ventilated area, Rheem Commercial undertook a site inspection to find a suitable location. It was determined that the car park next to the existing plant room was the best fit.
The installation was successfully carried out by JJ Coleman Plumbing together with Rheem Commercial.
