Just weeks after being appointed the new maintenance plumbers for Bowen Hills’ Exhibition and Function Centre, Shaw’s Plumbing and Gas were thrown a curve ball only days before hosting a 1,500-person function.

Following the failure of the gas burners and heat exchanger tanks for the commercial kitchen hot water plant, Shaw’s Plumbing and Gas worked with Rheem’s sales team in Queensland to size and design a modern, efficient, and reliable solution.

However, the project also involved several challenges. Firstly, the upper-level plant room had no lift or crane access. Secondly, there was a short time frame for supply and installation. Lastly, there was a whopping peak demand of over 8,000L.

Bowen Hills Solution

The solution came in the form of five Rheem commercial continuous flow water heaters delivering temperatures of up to 82°C for sanitising requirements common to commercial kitchens, as well as a 410L commercial storage tank, ensuring the facility’s hot water supply is reliable in times of high demand.

The five continuous flow water heaters were supplied as individual units and expertly installed on site by Shaw’s Plumbing and Gas, alongside the storage tank, controller, and primary and secondary pumps. Supplying these as components rather than a preassembled kit reduced lead time and overcame accessibility issues, making for a smooth and safe installation.
